Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Bellydance

Basic Tribal Style bellydance is an ongoing introduction to the basic dance technique, movements, rhythms, and culture of bellydance. This class is the foundation for all of our other bellydance offerings and is designed for those with no experience and those who wish to refresh their foundations. Students may join at any time. Proper attire includes yoga or casual dance attire. We dance barefoot or in ballet and modern dance shoes. HIp scarves are optional, but fun!

Inter/Advanced Turkish Tribal Style Bellydance.
This class is a mixture of lush combos, beautiful technique exercises, strengthening drills and choreography set to the fabulous music and designed to take your dance to the next level. Our dance style is based on a mixture of Tribal and Turkish folkloric styles
Students may attend by invitation of instructor. At least 6 weeks of Basic Tribal bellydance is required and students are encouraged to purchase both a 25 yard skirt and finger cymbals. Offered year round with occasional breaks as announced by instructor.

Instructor:

Christy Fricks is a second generation dancer and wanderer, she has followed the Romany trail since childhood seeking out all things Silk Road related.  16 years ago she found her first bellydance class and her love of dance and culture were united.   With over 10 years experience teaching and performing a wide variety of middle eastern dance styles, she is the director of Sulukule Dance Ensemble and a longtime supporter of the Athens dance scene. Christy travels around the southeast performing and teaching.  She also organizes much-loved community haflas and sponsors frequent world dance and music performances and workshops here in Athens. She holds degrees in Arabic literature, cultural studies and health and medical journalism and publishes articles on health, fitness, and culture for regional and national publications.  In spring of 2007, Christy was nominated for a Best Kept Secret Award by Zaghareet! magazine. This March, she realized her dream of opening a dance studio when she became the new owner of Floorspace Movement Arts.
